Pelosta/About fear

Tiedäthän sinäkin, miltä se tuntuu. Uuden edessä kurkkua kuristava kauhu, paino vatsanpohjassa. Silmien takana vilisevät kuvat mitä jos entä jos mutku entäkusitku. Kädet hikoavat kylmää. Kurkussa oleva pala kasvaa ja sanat putoilevat suusta kankeina ja tyhjinä. Pelottaa. Ihan hitosti,

Asun maassa, jossa tehtiin viimeyönä päätös. Päätös siitä, ettei Skotlannista tulekaan itsenäinen maa. Sanottiin No thanks uudelle ajalle, uusille mahdollisuuksille, edistykselle, omavaraisuudelle, nuorelle sukupolvelle. Nuoriso on raivoissaan. Pettymys on valtava.

No thanks-kampanjan slogan oli "It's not worth the risk".

Olen miettinyt pelkoa paljon viimeaikoina. Mikä pelottaa. Miksi? Pelottaa puhua julkisesti, pelottaa kokeilla uusia asioita, pelottaa sanoa miltä tuntuu, pelottaa tehdä virheitä, pelottaa tulla naurunalaiseksi, pelottaa luopua, Pelottaa, että joku joka on rakas lähtee tai kuolee. Varsinkin luopumisen pelko on todellinen. Pelkään päästää irti tutuista ja turvallisista ihmisistä, paikoista, tavoista. elämäntilanteesta. Koska, no, täähän on ihan mukavaa näin.

Pelko jähmettää ja pysäyttää paikalleen. Kun pelkää, ei mene eteenpäin. Ei mene, koe ja näe. Sitä on kiinni tutuissa rutiineissa päivästä, viikosta, kuukaudesta jopa vuodesta toiseen. Pelko on kollektiivinen tauti. Pelokkaassa sydämessä ei ole tilaa rakkaudelle. Pelko johtaa helposti vihaan, katkeruuteen ja kateuteen. Sillä on monia ovelia muotoja. Mutta totuus on, että the only thing that is constant is change.

-----------------------------------------------

You know how it feels. Whenever facing something new you feel something choking you, you feel a weight at the bottom of your stomach. Images of whatever could maybe possibly propably happen are racing wild behind your eyes. Your hands are sweat and cold, it is difficult to speak and whatever comes out feels empty and meaningless. You're so afraid. Very much so.

I live in a country in which a decision was made last night. A huge decision. A decision that Scotland will not become an independent country. They said no thanks to new times, possibilies, self-sufficiency, progress, the young generation. I can feel the frustration all around.  The majority of no-voters consists mainly of the old and the rich who feel content with the way things are. They do not want to let go of what they're used to, they decide to stick to the old patterns because, well, this is kind of comfortable as it is. Let's just let someone somewhere in the far London end decide for us so we don't have to. The young are furious. We are an intelligent and forward looking generation which has now been deprived of the possibility to make a real difference. A chance like this is not a reoccurring phenomena. The disappointment is huge.

This is how fear works, not just on individual level but it changes the destiny of a whole nation. The slogan for 'No thanks' -campaignt was 'It's not worth the risk'. The truth is that sometimes you just have to take the risk. You have to jump into the fire and through. See what happens then. The ashes might hide a diamond within.

I have been thinking about fear a lot recently. What makes me feel fear and why? I feel fear of speaking publicly, trying new things, saying how something makes me feel, making mistakes, feeling ridiculed, letting go. I feel fear when I think that somebody dear to me might leave or die. Especially the fear of letting go is sometimes very real. I fear to let go of people I know and feel safe having around, places, habits, life situations. Because, well, I feel comfortable the way things are.

Fear is stagnating. When one is afraid he does not go forward. He does not go, experience and see. One is stuck in familiar routines from day to day, week to week, month to month, even from year to year. Fear is a collective disease. Fearful heart has no space for love. Fear often leads to other emotions, like hate, bitterness and jealousy. It has many cunning forms. It is like a puppeteer, that is pulling the strings of one's personal destiny. But the truth is, that the only thing that is constant is change.

Today I promise to work with my fear. I will not treat it as an enemy but as a teacher.I can learn a lot from my fear, even, if I am lucky, I can turn it to be my strength. But one thing is for sure, I will not fear make me stand still anymore. I can run but not stop. I will step into the fire.

Ensimmainen yrite keikkakuvauksessa.
